HEAD OF AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL TO MAKE FIRST REGIONAL VISIT TO SOUTH ASIA

Amnesty International’s Secretary General, Agnès Callamard, will make her first regional visit to South Asia from 16 to 24 May 2024.

On 18 May, she will be joining the thousands of war-affected Tamils who will be commemorating all those lost to the internal armed conflict in Sri Lanka at an event in Mullivaikkal, Sri Lanka. On 24 May, she will have a Town Hall and interact with members of civil society, young people and the members of the media at Kathmandu, Nepal.

Agnès Callamard is an international human rights expert. A leading advocate for freedom of expression, a feminist, and an anti-racism activist, Dr Callamard has been at the forefront of international efforts to combat some of the greatest human rights challenges of our time. She was appointed Secretary General of Amnesty International in 2021, having previously worked as the United Nations Special Rapporteur on extra-judicial, summary or arbitrary executions.
